Responsible Coastal Development

Harmonising human activity with the conservation of coastal ecosystems.

More than 50% of Curaçao’s southern coast has been designated for tourism industry development. Coastal development without ecological consideration poses significant threats: habitat destruction, water pollution, loss of biodiversity, heightened vulnerability to natural disasters, and social and economic repercussions. RCD advocates for a comprehensive, sustainable approach — incorporating ecological assessments, green infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, and adherence to environmental regulations — to ensure the long-term health of both coastal ecosystems and human communities.
